New Games To Excite Olympic-Goers In Tokyo 2020

Olympic fans are already buzzing online and getting excited over some new game events lined up for next year’s Olympic Games in Japan. Here are some of the new additions.

Baseball (Men’s)

In a country crazy for both Baseball and Softball, their return to the Olympic program after a two-game absence couldn’t be more fitting.

Softball (Women’s)

Meanwhile, the U.S. women’s softball team will be the favorite with three golds and a silver won in four Games from 1996-2008.

Karate

A renowned and respected martial art native to Japan, karate will be making its Olympic debut in 2020 with two disciplines: kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).

Skateboarding

Skateboarding makes its Olympic debut as well with park and street competitions for men and women. The park course will be shared with the BMX event.

Sport Climbing

Another debut with three events competed separately on the world cup circuit - speed climbing, bouldering and lead climbing.

Surfing

Surfing will be a new sport in Tokyo and contested on the Shidashita Beach in Chiba. It will be of the short board variety with a competition for both men and women.

Basketball 3-on-3

A 3-on-3 variant will be added into the 2020 games for both genders. A team of 4 (1 reserve) plays a half court single basket. The first team to score 21 points or leads at the end of 10 minutes wins.

Table Tennis Mixed Doubles

Mixed doubles gets added to the 2020 Olympics along with the existing men’s and women’s singles and team events.
